JUMBO-Textil generates its own electricity

12.11.2025

By 2039, JUMBO-Textil aims to be a CO₂e-neutral company. Emission-free energy sources play a key role for us as a manufacturing business in reducing our CO₂e consumption. In Sprockhövel, we have been using only green electricity from solar, wind, and hydropower for years. Now, we are generating our own electricity – using solar energy.

1,520 solar modules for climate-neutral energy

We have installed a total of 1,520 solar modules on our roof, covering an area of 2,888 m² (that’s more than 11 tennis courts). The system generates a total output of 680 kilowatt peak. This allows us to produce around 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year – enough to power approximately 171 households annually. A system of this size saves around 350 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Since we use the energy on-site, we also eliminate transmission losses that occur when electricity is distributed through power lines.

Contributing to climate protection in Germany

“With the new system, we generate more electricity in sunny periods than we consume. We can then feed climate-neutral electricity back into the grid. And during periods with less sunshine, we continue to use green electricity,” emphasises Chief Operating Officer Patrick Kielholz. “This way, we – with the help of solar energy – are contributing to climate protection in Germany.”
